Upton County, Texas. One of the most prolific oil and gas producing counties in the Permian Basin. Over 500 drilling permits were issued in 2024 alone. Besides hydrocarbon production, the County sees substantial environmental impacts in other areas: Wastewater storage, pipelines, truck transportation, brine extraction and refinement, natural gas flaring, and more. The County has always been linked to the oil and gas industry, and will be for years to come. It’s an important County. Just don’t drink the water or breathe the air.
