Oil and Gas Overview: Pecos County, Texas
Pecos County, Texas is large producer of oil and gas in the Permian Basin of Texas. It’s also home to a beautiful oasis. That is, if you can survive water that is 3 times saltier than the oceans. Over 110 drilling permits were issued in 2024 alone. Besides hydrocarbon production, the County sees substantial environmental impacts in other areas: Wastewater storage, pipelines, truck transportation, brine extraction and refinement, natural gas flaring, bitcoin mining, data centers, and more. It’s an important County. But, you may not want to swim in the lake.
