Oil and Gas Overview: Howard County, Texas

Howard County, Texas. One of the most prolific oil and gas producing counties in the Permian Basin. Over 460 drilling permits were issued in 2024 alone. Besides hydrocarbon production, the County sees substantial environmental impacts in other areas: Wastewater storage, pipelines, truck transportation, brine extraction and refinement, natural gas flaring, and more. It’s an important County. Just don’t drink the water or breathe the air.
